A Few Weeks Off

Following our ER visit on the 21st, we had a normal quiet weekend.

Kendall and I headed back down to Children's on Monday morning (3/24) for a routine GFR test to make sure that the chemo isn't affecting her kidney function. It's a quick injection, followed by a two hour wait, and then 4 blood draws 30 minutes apart. So we knew it would take several hours, but should be fairly easy. 

During our long break, we hung out in the family resource center and ate some snacks, but during the shorts breaks we had to stick closer to Radiology. We started by hanging out in their regular waiting area, but I was being a nervous Nellie and wiping down her hands every time she touched anything, so I finally asked for a room. 

The test went fine, and the blood draws were easy since they can do those through her line. They also drew blood to check her numbers since we were taking some anyway (we knew her hemoglobin was borderline low on Friday) and they made us a quick clinic appointment to check a slight rash she had gotten around her dressing. 

Just as we showed up to clinic, her numbers came back and it was suggested that she receive a transfusion. After a quick check to make sure Fin was doing okay with his friends Paige and Allie (he was having a blast - note picture below, lol), we decided to just stay instead of coming back the following day. 

Gram headed over after work with some Mcdonalds for us since we never had lunch, and proceeded to spend the evening of her 60th birthday hanging out with us instead of going out to dinner. A quick dressing change and several hours of blood later, and we were on our way.

The next day (3/25) was our follow up Ophthalmology appointment, and we received the excellent news that her optic nerves look healthy and she had no change to her vision!! 

Numbers were fine on Wednesday, so after getting the ok from her oncologist, we decided to take the inaugural trip with Gram and Pop in their new van. On Friday morning we made the trek up to Pittsburgh to visit with our family up there. We had a nice time seeing Pop's mom on Friday night, and then Saturday morning we just hung out with Uncle Rich (Santa??) and filled our bellies before heading back home. 

It was a quick trip, and Kendall still
had to be careful in public places and wear her mask, but it was still really nice to have a little change of pace.
